Sergey Kryshtapovich (Belarus):

“Artist's statement” :
Today in my works I try to use coloristic methods, light, light intensity not for the purpose of making real objects of figurative world, but to represent them in the signs and symbols.
In other words it is a symbolic generalization of images: silhouettes of trees and silhouettes of birds flying, the sun, the moon…
Compositions of my works are architectonic, emphasizing sophisticated plastically and monumental features. It is also specific improvisation with shapes and materials.
Currently, I especially concentrate on a cycle dedicated to night celestial objects such as the moon, stars and landscapes with trees. I am primarily interested in internal content, ‘heart’ of an object.
Important components of my paintings are numerous color layers, sometimes relief surface and mathematical precise constructions.
For instance, statically unmovable moon, the shine of which is achieved by means of compound palette.
Compositions with trees are based on simple rhythm of vertical and horizontal lines.
Sometimes, the same motif is varied several times, but with different interpretation.
